Step Into a Magical VR World
For a child, Alopecia Areata is more than hair loss; it is an isolating experience that can lead to a loss of self-esteem and a sense of “otherness.” This project is a multi-stage therapeutic intervention that combines an illustrated storybook with an immersive Virtual Reality experience. Designed for children aged 4–9, the project aims to replace fear and shame with awe and creative agency.

The Inspiration
This project is deeply personal. For generations, my family has been dedicated to helping those with alopecia; my great-grandmother and grandfather developed a natural hair cream used by many in our community. I chose to honor this legacy of care by evolving it for the 21st century, moving from physical treatment to psychological empowerment through technology.
Nurturing Empathy and Understanding Through Storytelling
Every element of the “Enchanted Kingdom” was custom-modeled in Blender. I focused on soft, organic shapes and symbolic visual metaphors, such as sun-hat balloons and glittering scarves, to create a safe, comforting aesthetic. The project was developed in Unity, utilizing the XR Interaction Toolkit. I designed gentle, intuitive interactions that help children regain a sense of control over their environment and theirvirtual image. The goal is to bridge the gap between the physical and digital. The project includes a paperback book that serves as a “pre-VR” introduction, using Bibliotherapy techniques to prepare the child for the immersive journey.
Creating a More Compassionate World, One Story at a Time
This project highlights the impact of immersive technology in supporting children with alopecia, promoting acceptance and inspiring confidence in a supportive environment.
